Facial Fillers in Baltimore, MD

What are Facial Fillers?

Facial fillers are used to help restore lost volume to the face, smooth lines and wrinkles, and add plumpness to the lips. There are many different types of facial fillers on the market today, with  Juvederm and Restylane being the most popular.

These types of fillers are made up of hyaluronic acid, which is a naturally occurring substance in the body that attracts and binds water under the skin. Facial fillers can also be made up of calcium hydroxylapatite, poly-L-lactic acid, or polymethylmethacrylate.

Who is a Candidate?

Adults who are looking to fill in lines or wrinkles, add volume to their lips, or restore lost volume in the midface can often benefit from facial fillers. If you are pregnant or nursing you should not receive facial fillers. The type of facial filler that is right for you can be discussed with Dr. Bene during an in-office consultation. During your consultation, you will need to disclose your medical history and discuss any areas of concern that you may have. Then, an individualized treatment plan can be created to address your unique aesthetic goals.

The Procedure

During a facial filler treatment, a topical anesthetic will be applied to the treatment area to ensure a comfortable experience. Then, a fine, thin needle will be used to inject the facial filler. This process is usually quick, taking just 15-20 minutes. Depending on the filler used, results may be noticeable right after treatment.

Results

Following your dermal filler appointment, you may experience some redness, swelling, bruising, or bumps in the treatment area, though this should resolve with time. There is no downtime needed after receiving fillers, so feel free to return to your everyday activities as soon as you feel comfortable. Results can last anywhere from 6-18 months, depending on the type of filler used.
