Acne

Acne Treatment

BLU-U® is blue light photodynamic therapy that kills the P. acnes bacteria in your skin. Treatments are simple – you sit with your face close to the light for a short time, approximately a 17-minute session about once or twice per week. The treatments may go on for five weeks or so. It’s safe, it’s not hot, it’s not painful. After some weeks, the blue light can help control your acne. If you have moderate acne and are uncomfortable taking antibiotics or are unhappy with topical treatment results, BLU-U® blue light therapy may be something for you to try.

Curettage is the removal of a skin lesion with a sharp knife. Curettage is usually performed for the removal of warts, skin tags, and superficial skin cancers such as a basal cell carcinoma or noninvasive squamous cell carcinoma in situ. Curettage may be repeated several times to remove the tissue or it may be combined with other procedures, such as cryotherapy. A local anesthetic is applied before the procedure to numb the skin.

Excision and Closure

Skin Cancer Treatment
The lesion or tumor cancer is cut away with a scalpel and the wound is closed with sutures.

Skin Biopsies

Skin Cancer Prevention
A skin biopsy is a procedure performed in the doctor’s office that removes a portion of skin for diagnostic testing. Skin biopsies are frequently performed on dark spots, moles, or other skin lesions to determine if they may be skin cancer. A skin biopsy may also be performed if a skin condition cannot be diagnosed by other means, such as through a skin exam and medical history.

Skin Checks

Skin Cancer Prevention
A skin exam and review of medical history is one of the best preventive measures for preventing skin cancer. During a skin check, the skin is checked for suspicious moles or lesions and changes to the skin that may be precursors of skin cancer.

Mohs Surgery

Skin Cancer Treatment

Mohs surgery is a surgical procedure for the removal of skin cancer that is a highly precise and highly effective method. It removes the visible tumor and any “roots” that may have extended beneath the skin surface. Mohs surgery is most commonly used for basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma. Cancers that have recurred are often treated with Mohs surgery because the precision of this procedure is ideal for the elimination of cancers in cosmetically and functionally critical areas such as on the head, neck, hands, and feet. (About 90% of Mohs surgery procedures are performed on the face.) Mohs surgery is the most effective and advanced treatment for skin cancer today. It offers the highest potential for cure – even if the skin cancer has been previously treated by another method.
